The governor of Minnesota has signed a new bill that will require officers, deputies, and investigators to use more rigorous scientific practices when they conduct photographic lineups, reports the Star Tribune. The new rules will go into effect in February 2021. Their intent is to lower rates of wrongful convictions, which sometimes occur based on flawed witness memories or the suggestive techniques of those managing lineups. The Minnesota law received bipartisan support.
